King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck of Bhutan with President Sir Luong Cuong

Bhutan and Vietnam established diplomatic relations on 19 January 2021, laying the foundation for cooperation in many fields. Since then, ties have expanded through official exchanges, trade, culture, and tourism. People-to-people exchanges highlights this growth: more Vietnamese are visiting Bhutan for its culture, spirituality, and landscapes, while interest in Bhutan handicrafts, textiles and retreats has risen in Vietnam.

A milestone came in August 2025 when King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema paid the first state visit to Vietnam, opening new avenues for cooperation in culture, trade, and governance. Today, Bhutan-Vietnam relations hold strategic significance in: Cultural diplomacy & Soft power, Tourism, Trade & Cultural goods, Policy alignment.
